Well, we know a few things, and we trust the rest. Everything seems to work out just fine where Barack is involved. We know that we have flights confirmed. We don't know where we are staying. In either city. We know that we're getting on the train Saturday. We don't know what time or where or anything else about it. We know about an event Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial, that we'll participate in a service project, and that we will have standing tickets at the inauguration. We've been told to prepare to stand for hours that day and dress for the weather. Believe me, I'm checking weather.com everyday looking for trends and hoping for no rain. And finally, we have been told that we are to attend the Neighborhood Ball. That should be a lot of fun. It's going to be televised on ABC. Look for Hannah in a stunning emerald green dress~! (that still needs to be altered- anyone know of a great tailor who can do a really complicated job?! fast!?)
We're almost all outfitted now- quite a feat! We finished our "credentialing" process today. I'm looking for some darling dresses to come in the mail for Grace, and she's getting her "ear-locks" modified tomorrow. Hannah was supposed to leave today for Chicago, but there was so much to do that we postponed her return to school which enabled us to find her great dress today. Linz is set up pretty well. She and Grace seem to be the least ruffled by any of this, as it should be. They're just excited and hoping to play with Malia and Sasha on the train. We have no idea if this will even be a possibility- really no idea what to expect.
We know a little about some of the people who will be on the train with us. One is Lily Ledbetter, a grandmother from Alabama, who fought Goodyear tires for equal pay and won, then lost in the Supreme Court but now has the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act named after her. There will also be the couple in the "infomercial", both laid off auto workers. There is an Iraq war veteran and veterans' advocate. It is going to be an interesting group of people. It is going to be great fun, meeting so many people and hearing their stories and how they met Barack Obama, how he and the campaign have impacted their lives. I've placed a link to the Presidential Inaugural Committee's website at the bottom of the blog which takes you to the press release that lists all of the lucky train passengers.
That's all for now. TGIF.

This is great. I can't wait to read and follow the your adventures!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have time to update this blog, but keep it comin'!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you all! What a remarkable family to represent all of us! I'll be watching closely that night.
ReplyDeleteGracie and Family,
ReplyDeleteI am living history viscariously through you all. Yesterday, on NBC's national news broadcast at 5:30, they showed the video footage of you all boarding the train with the Obama's. I started screaming to everyone in the house. What a thrill! I am so grateful that you are sharing this with me. Gracie, I will have to 'debrief' you when you get back to school.
Thank you all!
Love, Ms. O'Connor
